Art Gallery

I came across the idea once that to draw an egg, you don't need a white color pencil or paint. When examined carefully, you can see hints of gold from the sunlight and various colored shadows from surrounding objects — the blue from a nearby water glass, the highlight from a silverware reflection, the brown from the table. Now, whenever I look at an object or landscape, I wonder how one would portray it. What colors would be used? How would you create depth? These works are my sketches and paintings of the world around me — my answer, each time, to those questions.

Zhejiang Canal

On a trip to China, I saw this woman doing laundry in the canal the same day I saw the Shanghai skyline towering over me. I was taken aback at how tradition and modernity coexisted.

Desert Caravan

I had never seen anything like the Sahara - the endless waves of golden sand, the cotton candy sunsets and sunrises, the blanket of stars unobstructed by light pollution, and the resilience of those who inhabit the Sahara.
